DSS Chrispin
The shuttle crafts are normally used between the Chrispin in orbit. The Chrispin usually carries 6 shuttles. Two "Flitters", small personnel shuttles carrying 4 people plus some personal gear. These are small, sleek shuttles that are used for shuttling several people to and from the surface.

Two are "Scout" class. These normally carry up to 10 people plus some cargo. They are pretty much limited to short range and  to and from the surface.

The two "Clippers" carry around 18 plus cargo and have extended range. They can be used for orbit to surface trips and can do extended trips usually limited to a solar system. They have tractor beams that can carry external cargo. They do not have the speed or range to make interstellar trips.

None of the shuttles carry armament however they do have shields. The Flitters and Scouts carry light shields and the Clippers carry a heavier shield with inertial damping.

The crew was hand selected from the best in the CSF and scientific community that wanted to come on board. Col. Paula Gunn, who had an exemplary career in the CSF was chosen to command the Chrispin and Professor Karl Karl, one of the most brilliant scientific minds in the Confederation, agreed to be the Chief Science Officer.

Since the Chrispin can be away for extended periods, much attention has been paid to the arrangements for them. All crew have private quarters consisting of two modules; a living and sleeping module. These quarters are more like homes rather than just cabins. Families are welcome however quarters are basically limited to two children. A Family Activity section provides activities geared to the entire family. A gift shop is located in this section. The Education Section provide everything from preschool to continuing education. These sections are under the Operations Department. Many of the activities are staffed by dependents.

Those few areas that have charges such as the Gift Shop use credit. There is little use for money on board the Chrispin. Pay is banked back on Earth and the UCS Personal Affairs office on Earth manages crew and dependent financial affairs if desired. Expenses incurred on the Chrispin are debited when the ship returns to Earth periodically. Communications to family and friends back on Earth is provided at no cost.

The Dome uses glass-steel, a special material that is as tough as steel alloys and can be opaque or set to pass light in any spectrum. In the normal view mode it appears clear as glass giving some spectacular views of space. The dome extends about 4m (13') above the upper hull.
