Drango's Hawaiian Cruise

Our adventure took us to 4 islands of Hawaii and Fanning Island in the South Pacific. It was organized by Vantage Deluxe World Travel which did a wonderful job with the arrangements. I highly recommend them. I put a page for each island we visited.

The islands we visited.

Hawaii is a state. It became a state in 1959. It is the 50th state. Hawaii is a group of 8 Islands in the Pacific Ocean. One of these islands is also named Hawaii. Thus Hawaii may refer to all the islands as well as one specific island. The Hawaiian Islands are over 3,000 miles from the mainland of the United States. 

These islands were created by volcanoes on the floor of the ocean. As they erupt the volcano mountains got higher and higher. It has taken some 70 million years to create the islands as they are today. Some of these volcanoes are still active. The Hawaiian Islands are still growing.

The earliest people came to Hawaii around 500 AD from the South Pacific. It is thought that they came first to the island of Hawaii. Christian missionaries came to the Islands in 1820. They brought much good to the islands but they also destroyed much of the early culture and traditions of the early Hawaiians. Whalers also used Hawaii as a center. The whalers brought diseases to the Hawaiians. The diseases were unknown to the Hawaiians and they had no resistance to them.  That caused the deaths of many. Many other cultures came to the Hawaiian islands and blended with the Hawaiians. Large numbers of Chinese, Japanese, and Americans also came to the islands. Today there are few pure Hawaiians left in the Islands.
